Captain in the Making: Day 4

Captain in the Making: Day 4

This sailing course has been such a huge success so far. I have learned so much.

The real truth, I am exhausted! We are waking up early, sailing all day in the sun with no AC and we are literally a hot sticky mess.

If that isn’t enough, at night we hose off outside with a spray hose, try drying off as much as possible just to do our testing and eat.

Our boat has no AC (did I mention that) so after cooking we get the boat real nice and toasty before bedtime. As you can imagine it doesn’t make for the easiest night sleep.

So after all this hardwork and pushing my body to new limits, I will be one Salty Skipper!

Yesterdays sail to Boca Chita Key. Yesterday I docked the boat myself and was the helsman apon anchoring overnight.

Today is our second test. ASA 103. I did some studying last night, after dinner. We still have ASA 104 and ASA 114 in front of us.

We had a beautiful hike on Biscayne Key. Got to see a light house and learn about the island. We had lunch at a little restaurant there. With AC so that was amazing!

Dinner was steak, seasoned and grilled by Don a fellow crew. James made the chicken and rice, I made the salad and salad dressing. Captain Dan did the clean up. We have really enjoyed our compatability on this boat. We have all been having fun.

We dont have AC so last night we slept on the front trampoline. Actually got a cool breeze all night. Was wonderful going to sleep under the stars and waking up to sunrise.

We did our provisions grocery trip and have charted our course. Setting sail in a few minutes. Tonight we will be anchoring near Key Biscayne. ⛵️

I have already learned a ton. Checked the oil, filled the water tanks, percolated coffee ☕️, charted our course (not mapped) and calculated nautical miles. Our trip today is 28.9 nautical miles and will take approximately 6 hours.

There is a hurricane in the Alantic so….say a little prayer that is stays clear of us! 🙏

Happy sailing!
